60 Second Mini Movie Task Storyboard

Me and Abby have planned using a Digital Photo Storyboard, this post features the photographs we've taken.
We've decided to do a tour of some of the schools locations.

60 Second Mini Movie Task

To 'practise' single camera techniques we've been set the task to create a '60 second mini movie' which demostrates the techniques.
We are working in groups of 2-3 for this particular task, I'm working with Abby.

Year 13 major project; START!

We are now beginning the major project of the year 13 course.
This is to demonstrate 'Single Camera Techniques' by producing a individual film extract or trailer from scratch.
This includes coming up with original ideas, pre-producing, shooting and then editing individually.

Evaluation

We were giving the task to pre-produce, film, edit and then evaluate our own music video to an already existing song. We had the choice between 14 different MP3 tracks, after listening to all of them we chose the song which we liked and had the most ideas for. This process follows closely to the real music industry as a director wouldn’t necessarily choose what they have to work with. The song we finally decided was Pressing Lips originally sung by The Pursuit of Happiness.

            We chose to have both a narrative and a performance based video, this worked well as the song has interpretable lyric and a good guitar beat. The narrative was unrequited love due to the nature of the lyrics, a few lines stand out to me;

“The god who made us made me mortal too

He gave me no special powers I could use on you

I've done all I can do”

I could never want you more than this

Some boys will tell you they can make you complete

I won't presume that I'm the only thing you need”

The filming process was smooth and consistent, we had a schedule which help us to determine when our actors were available and when was best for us to film at each location without public interference.

Our first rough draft was mainly to get the main components in order and see how the video looked and felt in general. For the next draft we synchronised most of the cuts between shots to the beat of the music and added transitions to create smoother cuts which improved the overall flow of the video.

It was also decided that there was a need for a greater contrast between the memory sequences and the performance sequences. To do this we added a black and white tinted effect, but chose to make sure that some of the colour could be seen to add more realism to the shots. Another colour change was to adjust the brightness, contrast and RBG scales to enhance the natural reds in the performance scenes. This helped create a more concert like atmosphere.

I believe the final edit we produced was to a decent quality and as we had imagined. However, for future improvements of productions I would shoot more angles to prevent repetitiveness and make sure the scenes didn’t blur.

Editing

We're currently editing the rough cut and are nearly finished, hopefully this one is of the possible quality!

Editing

For editing it was decided to save the project to a Memory Card and entrust that card to the one with highest attendance (me = 100% attendance). Therefore the problem of being unable to access the work would be avoided!

Progress 25/2/2013

Filming is almost completed.
Only shots 20-24 which are the shots required for the 'Library' scene.
We may also need to reshoot the 'crowd' shots, due to lost of footage.
